Rob Pennington’s debut single is an ode to the legendary country music duo of Brooks & Dunn.
While name dropping numerous Brooks & Dunn classics, Pennington plays with the homophone of “Dunn” and “done,” to tell the listener how the song’s protagonist lost his girlfriend.
[Verse 1]
She was my Maria, but she ain't no more
'Cause she boot scoot and boogied right out that front door
Down that red dirt road she was born to run
Now we're so Brooks & Dunn
[Verse 2]
She used to be mine 'til she took the keys and left me
In the middle of the night, no "see you later, gotta get goin'"
No kiss goodbye
Nothin' but her tail light glow
That ain't no way to go
[Chorus]
She was my Maria, but she ain't no more
'Cause she boot scoot and boogied right out that front door
Down that red dirt road she was born to run
Now we're so Brooks & Dunn
[Verse 3]
That girl had me wrapped around her finger, now she's gone
She rocked my world
She was the sweetest dang country song I'd ever heard
Yeah when somethin' that good gets gone, man it hurts
Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine, it's gettin' better all the time
[Chorus]
She was my Maria, but she ain't no more
'Cause she boot scoot and boogied right out that front door
Down that red dirt road she was born to run
Now we're so Brooks & Dunn
Done, done, done, done
[Verse 4]
She ain't comin' back
She's as gone as yesterday
Heard she found a brand new man
Somewhere south of Santa Fe
[Chorus]
She was my Maria, but she ain't no more
'Cause she boot scootin' boogied right out that front door
Down that red dirt road she was born to run
Now we're so Brooks & Dunn
Yeah we're so Brooks & Dunn
Done, done, done, done
[Outro]
Oh well
Kix, Ronnie, let's go
