Book Bag is the third and last single off of ‘Ransom For Hostage’ before it’s release. It takes the listener even further back in time to a period in Skam’s life where he decided to stop dealing drugs and pursue a rapping carreer.
(Chorus:)
I got it all in my booky book bag
My, my booky book bag (x4)
(Verse 1:)
I got casettes, vinyls & CD's in the book bag
Times was a lil' different, let me take you back
When I was in my momma's kitchen weighing another gram
Bagging it for selling it, goddamn
I had my daily routine, but some shit that happens never goes according to plan
From the basketball court to the corner, from the corner to the court, from the corner back to school in my new nikes
Thought I was cool, could afford this shit from selling keys, but as I'm waiting on my next client, supplying their needs
I heard the sirens, see the flashing lights gleaming
Toss the bag in the trash can and I tried to ran
So I was running and running, 'til I couldn't run no more
My legs gave in and collapsed at my friend's porch
Tried knocking on his door, they didn't open up and that's when the pigs came around, picked me up from the ground
(Chorus:)
I got it all in my booky book bag
My, my booky book bag (x4)
(Verse 2:)
You have the right to remain silent cus everything you say can and will be used against you
So I plead the fifth, I ain't telling em' shit, but a look into my bag was enough to see these bags, saw my life flash
I don't wanna do no time, but what goes around comes around
How could I fall this low? (low) When all I did was sell the stuff that got you high (high), picked myself up from the ground, reinvented myself
Had enough time to figure it out
Now all I carry in my bag is a pen and a pad
I went from living behind bars to living behind bars
Everyone deserves a second chance, so welcome me back with open arms and stretched hands
Fucked up once, but now I got bigger plans
Forget the people I used to call homies from the past
We had a lot of fun, but I'm past that
Hope you understand that
(Chorus:)
I got it all in my booky book bag
My, my booky book bag (x4)
(Verse 3:)
Grafitti on the left, pen on the right
Pad in the center and we doing allright
So no stressing when they coming with the K-9 dogs
No more selling on the corner in the cold
Rain, sleet, snow, or twenty below
This is my final chance and this one I ain't gon' blow
I'm entertaining you through visions that I had
Teaching you my lessons, that's the shit I never had
But if you wanna do like I do, go ahead and try to
I fucking warned you!
(Chorus:)
I got it all in my booky book bag
My, my booky book bag (x8)
Book Bag was written by Jason Moens.
Book Bag was produced by Tone Jonez.
This was the first song I recorded that made me create the theme for the album.
