“Black on Black on Black” is based on a section of Homer’s Odyssey. Odysseus, having shipwrecked, is forced to stay on Ogygia (here “Omphalos”) for seven years by the nymph Calypso. There, he is forced to be her lover, but strives to escape to his wife and child.
[Verse 1]
Odysseus is in the palm trees
Being held captive on the isle Omphalos
Now hear the tale that followed
"Doesn’t anybody wanna catch me?
Doesn’t anybody want me?" he said, solemn
The wine-dark sea it called him
[Chorus]
Athena, can you hear me please?
I’m begging you on my knees of sorrow
Got shit to beg or borrow
And you know you really can’t escape
I'ma leave it in the hands of fate, Omphalos
I’m leaving here tomorrow
[Verse 2]
He lashed a raft out on the beach
Calypso wеpt, she could not reach him
Every night bеseeched him
"Baby, please, I give you everything you need"
She put his hands upon her chest
He looked away, she got upset
[Chorus]
Athena, can you hear me please?
I’m begging you on my knees of sorrow
Got shit to beg or borrow
And you know you really can’t escape
I'ma leave it in the hands of fate, Omphalos
I’m leaving here tomorrow
(Black on black on black)
(I’m gonna get you back)
(Black on black on black)
(I’m gonna get you back)
You’re gonna get me
You’re gonna get me
And then you’re gonna see
And then you’re gonna see
You’re gonna get me
You’re gonna get me
And then you’re gonna see
And then you’re gonna see
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
Athena, can you hear me please?
I’m begging you on my knees of sorrow
Got shit to beg or borrow
And you know you really can’t escape
I'ma leave it in the hands of fate, Omphalos
I’m leaving here tomorrow
You’re gonna get me
You’re gonna get me
And then you’re gonna see
And then you’re gonna see
You’re gonna get me
You’re gonna get me
And then you’re gonna see
And then you’re gonna see
You’re gonna get me
You’re gonna get me
And then you’re gonna see
And then you’re gonna see
