Black Material White Noise

It's not that race isn't real.
It's that, it isn't really true.
It's a lie.
But the lie is heavy and material.

Part of the lie is that race is color.
As long as whiteness is the norm
Blackness is the Other, the ethnicity.
This blackness is a myth.
Part of the myth of blackness is its material.
That it is material.

How can blackness be mythical and still be unable to transcend
the heaviness of that fantasy?
The physical cage of it?

How can a dream be so poor in the currency of possibility?

How can the other
be so invisiblе,
ignored,
hidden in the world of whitе?
How can a sea of color be so unseen?

This colored material is a myth.
This black material is a technology.

It changes.
We do not control this colored material.

When threatened, color may try to hide.
In times of danger, it may wave american flags
But american flags do not protect color.

To try to be american is to try to access the sanctuary
of one's own home.
Color eats cereal and stuff
but that doesn't protect it.

When seeking safety,
color feels forced to duck behind these white signs
To obscure itself.
Whiteness isn't something that's merely
sprinkled on for flavor
for aesthetic experience
It's a symbol of sameness that we
cover ourselves in,
hide beneath
but we seek refuge in something that turns transparent on us
even as we call on its protection.

We do not control this white material.

Whiteness is a blank slate of possibility,
of infinite experience and color.
For whiteness, fantasy is a giant bird to ride.
For whiteness, life is a lucid dream.
Whiteness is also a myth.
But it is a myth that allows for variety
and yet maintains its blankness.

The myth of whiteness is its immateriality.
Invisible, ubiquitous,
an impenetrable shield
and a dexterous hand
one that assigns qualities to bodies.
Imagining itself godlike, whiteness constructs the world in its own image.

What is this white material?
What does it consist of?

Whiteness is weird.

It's a magic trick.
White experience equates itself with human experience.
It claims the human psyche and condition.
Black violence is a crime, but
white violence is understood through the emotional body.

Whiteness evokes an automatic empathy.

Whiteness is invisible to itself.
This lack of awareness feels like a kind of innocence
But unconsciousness is never an excuse.
It's merely a state that causes more harm.

Whiteness is noise.
White noise masks undesirable noises.

Whiteness paints itself as invincible,
Writes itself as infinite.
It assumes it cannot be dismantled
but it wishes to conquer itself.
Whiteness sees itself as a repentant figure-
longing to be vulnerable
cracked open
to be cooked and chemically transformed
by contact with color

In its brave dive into the deep black sea of the Other
Whiteness temporarily relinquishes its primary position
Like a spiritual experience
Like a psychedelic trip
But the ego always reconstructs itself after its little death.
It always comes back.

The myth of whiteness needs the illusion of fluidity
to reassert its dominance in every single context.
Black myths also need mutability
to be resubjugated in every context
But for that subjugation to hold
Color must look, and feel, material.

Whiteness imagines itself so immaterial
It needs a costume to be seen.
Like a ghost.
It needs to borrow colored material.

Color is the body,
but whiteness is the infinite reincarnation.
Color is the song,
but whiteness is the singer.
Color is the place,
but whiteness is the person.
Color is an adjective,
but whiteness is a being.

Blackness is the beautiful,
wild terrain of Otherness
Where whiteness can start over,
recapitulate each stage of its development
propagate itself
live out its instinctual drive for perpetuation
without awareness

Whiteness can be a visitor on strange soil
and not be threatened with impending ejection
violation
extermination
It can explore other planets,
but not be an alien.

It can paint a mysterious world anew
experience danger, revelation
growth, coming of age
and through the metamorphosis
it precipitates itself
