I wrote this song from experience. It’s about the short time before a friendship ends where you can tell it’s about to go away because the moments where you do talk to your former friend feel hollow and empty and most of all, bitter.
[Verse:]
You were waiting in the last time we spoke
To be the one to make the most lasting joke
We hope for anything to tie this loose rope
But I don't wanna tie it too tight, I'll choke
We hang out on occasion, we don't really mean it
It just hurts to talk, and we don't wanna feel it
We both know that we're not that invested
But we do what's tried and tested
If it used to work, then it must work now
If it could work, then I must try it out
And if it just hurts, then it was gonna happen anyway
At this point there is nothing more that I can say
To convince you to care
And I'm the same way, but I'm scared
And I don't know why I won't miss you
Why won't you tell me the truth?
[Chorus:]
And I'm a long-shot away from leaving you
But if you want to leave, you should've taken your turn
It's a far-sight away from what we really want
But if you really want, you should've taken your turn
I know that you're no better for knowing me
But if you wanna forget, you should've taken your turn
I know I messed up, but you did too
And if you wanna make up, you should've taken your turn
[Post-Chorus:]
It's not to say that it wasn't worth it
Because I know and you know that we don't regret a thing
Except for maybe now
So do you run?
[Outro:]
Did ya run, run, run?
Did ya run, run, run?
Did ya run, run, run?
Did ya run, run, run?
Did ya run, run, run?!
Did ya run, run, run?!
Did ya run, run, run?!
Did ya run, run, run?!
