[Verse 1]
I got a lot of things on my mind right now
A million ways to think about you
I can't say I expected anything different
'Cause the way you complicate me's simple, yeah
[Pre-Chorus]
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
She didn't stutter, my chest flutters
Cardiac attack in the cradle of the summer
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
I'm superstitious, the kid's vicious
Bubblegum smile, taste the cherry on her lips
[Chorus]
You know I want you in the worst way
I need you like cake on my birthday
The way you operate is so sweet
I need you like cake on my birthday
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
[Verse 2]
I got a lot of long nights in my life right now
And a lot of spare time to waste with you
I can't say I expected something so visceral
But the way we complicate it's simple, oh yeah
[Pre-Chorus]
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
She didn't stutter, my chest flutters
Cardiac attack in the cradle of the summer
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
I'm superstitious, the kid's vicious
Bubblegum smile, taste the cherry on her lips
[Chorus]
You know I want you in the worst way
I need you like cake on my birthday
The way you operate is so sweet
I need you like cake on my birthday
[Bridge]
Cardiac attack in the cradle of the summer
Ba da da da da da da da da
Cardiac attack in the cradle of the summer
[Chorus]
You know I want you in the worst way
I need you like cake on my birthday
The way you operate is so sweet
I need you like cake on my birthday
[Outro]
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
I need you like cake on my birthday
Ba da ba da ba, ba da ba da ba
I need you like cake on my birthday

Vocalist Alex Gaskarth said on Twitter:
What happens when you smash a Queen-inspired, stacked vocal chorus on top of a 90’s drum loop and a guitar riff you recorded on your phone on tour? This song.
Alex: Basically, we were on tour and I believe we were in Sweden and we had this Marshall amp that had built-in sounds and tones and weird effects. So I was just sitting there with my guitar and my voice notes open trying to write riffs and I found the tone and the effect that created that first ope...
The video was just good fun. Everything on Last Young Renegade was kind of dark and vibey in a different tone for us, so with this video we wanted the opposite of that. We wanted pastel colors and surreal birthday cake fun.
