Even though his mama knew the bible front to back
Billy wasn't man on church
Even though his daddy was a very pious man
Billy seemed to enjoy doin' the devil's work
It didn't seem to matter all that he'd been taught
He could go to hell and raise it when he could
That's been seven years ago now he's on the narrow road
And everything he does seems to be good
But it's not because his mama loved him and put up with his lies
And not just because his daddy
Preached about what's right
He just followed that commandment that said "come unto me"
And that's how Billy saw the light
Billy teaches Sunday school now, helpin' with the kids
Showin' all the places Jesus walked
Billy walks that straight and narrow just the way he should
He's even changed the way that he talks
He makes his Mom and Dad so proud that they have a son
He's even settled down and got a wife
And he hopes to have a kid someday and bring him up the Christian way
Billy is so glad he changed his life
But it's not because his mama loved him and put up with his lies
And not just because his daddy
Preached about what's right
He just followed that commandment that said "come unto me"
And that's how Billy saw the light
Yeah, that's how Billy saw the light
