Better Than
I grew up in a family
Where the men were no good
I watched my uncles run trains on young thangs
And just that quick their innocence was taken
My daddy was a rolling stone
And he always made sure we never had a home
I watched my momma cry and try to hide her frustrations
Adding years to her face till the angels came and took her away
(He never once) considered that she needs love
(He never once) valued the God in here
(He never once) let the truth unfold
(He never once) put her before the bottle
(But he always) tore down her self-esteem
(He always) shattered her every dream
(He always) played on her weaknesses
(He always) only thought of himself
(I'll treat you better than) my brother treated his lady
(Be better than) my uncle treated his wife
(Be better than) my best friend treated his momma
(Be better than) my daddy treated mine
(Be better than) my cousin treated his girlfriend
(Be better than) the neighbor treated his woman
Be better than
And with all that abuse I saw them go through
I'll treat you better than
Cross my heart hope to die I swear that I
Vow you never live that life
I'm a new seed from my family tree
And baby girl you're the apple of my eye
You're the rain that sings me to sleep at night
You're the unclaimed flower that when I smell it I cry
You're the weight of the moon that brings in the tide
And baby girl you can say that
(He never once) raised his hand to me
(He never once) made me feel lonely
(He never once) acted on alcohol
(He never once) gave all his love to basketball
(But he always) treated me with respect
(He always) helped if I got off track
(He always) he always got my back
(He always) his love is matter of fact
(I'll treat you better than) my brother treated his lady
(Be better than) my uncle treated his wife
(Be better than) my friends treated his momma
(Be better than) and my daddy treated mine
(Be better than) my cousin treated his girlfriend
(Be better than) the neighbor treated his woman
Be better than
After all of that abuse I'll treat you better
Than anyone's ever treated women in my family
That's how it's gonna be as long
As you are here with me I guarantee
That it'll get better everyday
That's all that I can say
It's the only way
(I'll treat you better than) my brother treated his lady
(Be better than) my uncle treated his wife
(Be better than) my friend treated his momma
(Be better than) the way my daddy treated mine
(Be better than) I'll be better I'll treat you
Better than (x5)
I won't hurt ya baby
I'll treat you better than
