At the age of 21, Dutch artist Ruben Pol published “Bed Sheets” as his debut single.
Inspired by “a beautiful but very toxic relationship,” this song does not only display the problems between the two, it also shows Ruben’s regrets of how it could’ve been differently.
[It’s basically] my thoughts...
[Verse 1]
Smoke is filling up your parent's car
Something's not feeling right or is it who we are?
You're causing shade again, been here before
I wanna turn around 'cause somehow I want more
[Chorus]
Flights in the night air
And drunken words slipping out
Will we ever learn?
You don't ever play fair
With dirty words under our bed sheets
In the morning
[Post-Chorus]
Tell me
Bed sheets in the morning
[Verse 2]
How can you hear me wit your head in sand?
I'm sick of holding out, why can't you understand?
Back to the start again, worse than before
I thought you'd know by now, I needed something more
[Chorus]
Flights in the night air
And drunken words slippin' out
Will we ever learn?
You don't ever play fair
With dirty words under our bed sheets
In the morning
[Post-Chorus]
Tell me
Bed sheets in the morning
[Bridge]
Smoke is filling up
The words are slipping out
I wish that this was different
I know I would have worked it out
[Outro]
Tell me
Bed sheets in the morning

For me, putting the track out there and having it available for every individual in the world to listen to is what I had been looking forward to the most. Especially because of my low expectat...
In an interview, Ruben Pol has mentioned his desire for a “simple and clean” cover art.
The photo used in the artwork was taken by Ruben de Wilde. It features a black and white closeup of Ruben himself and the texture of bed sheets in the background.
The necklace I’m wearing is one I never take of...
[“Bed Sheets” is] a very personal story, yet ridiculously relatable. You only understand what it truly was, when the love is over.
