“Beat Street” samples the melody to Carly Simon’s 1982 hit single “Why”. The original is reggae-tinged, which may be a clue to the title of Whitewoods' song, as Orange Street in Kingston, Jamaica–the epicenter of ska, rocksteady and reggae–is also referred to as ‘Beat Street’.
[Verse 1]
Small city of streets, small city of woes
It's coming on, it's coming every day
I see the change, I see the walk
I see the stars and they're all there above of me
[Chorus 1]
She said there's no
Trouble with the truth in living; what a day
Hold on, beat street
Getting all the words 'til they get through to you
[Verse 2]
The chosen few are witness to
The things we know they're yours to demonstrate
It's not a thing that's a part of me
Who writes a script alone and follows everyday
[Chorus 2]
He said, no scene
Street legal rules inside our dreams
Hold on, beat street
Getting all the words 'til they get through to you
