At Least You Got the Cake

I wrapped you up safe in green parks and backyards
Would you have rather had an alleyway
Complete with fishbones, cans, and skids?

I showered your summers with sprinklers and pools
Would you have rather spent your Saturdays
Around the hydrant with the poor kids?

I served you what I could make
And you finished up every plate
Were you licking your fingertips
While you put down the food I baked?
Well you might not like the icing
But at least you got the cake

Well you see yourself in a kitchen seat play
Where you can holler from a balcony
And hear the screeching of the cats

But lest we forget on this romantic set
There's no room for a university
But maybe hunger, drips, and rats

I served you what I could make
