The song’s namesake was a reference to the Fjarðaál aluminium smelter which was used in conjunction with the operation of the (at the time) proposed hydropower plant, though the lyrics of the song seemed to have been improvised on the spot.
[Verse 1: Damon Albarn]
I don't know, am I dreaming?
Iceland is turning
The colour of money
Making nature pay
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 2: Damon Albarn]
This land is a young land, let it
Stay that way
It's a revolution, they know
If the planet's gone to waste
[Chorus: Damon Albarn]
It's all aluminum
That's getting on bigger
The river´s flowing
Poison! Poison! Poison!
[Verse 3: Einar Örn Benediktsson]
[Chorus: Damon Albarn]
Aluminum
That's getting on bigger
The river's flowing
Poison! Poison! Poison!
Aluminum
That's getting on bigger
The river's flowing
Poison! Poison! Poison!
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus: Damon Albarn]
Aluminum
That's getting on bigger
Because the river's flowing
Poison! Poison! Poison
