In ‘Alone’, Newman reflects on experiences being alone. His overgenerosity has left him with no one, however, despite being in tears from these ‘assaults’, the subject of the track ‘retain[s] a sense of humour’.
This track was used in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs.
Alone, with too much generosity
A theatre mask of hostility attracts
Assaults occur infrequently
And those who come, to conquer?
Need strength
But damage accumulates
Still
Moving him to tears
Retained a sense of humour
