Although the entire album’s subject matter fits entirely within the plot line of the of the comic series accompanying the music, there exists a not entirely implausible reading of this project which suggests this album (at least, in part) is a response to the events surrounding Lights' former manage...
[Verse 1]
You were my halogen, guiding me home
My only weapon when I was alone
You were a big city, one I got lost in
And when you spoke with me, I fell open
I fell open
[Pre-Chorus]
But did you know that cost when you broke your promise?
(I was unprepared)
That when your bombs went off they would come down on us
[Chorus]
I was a knife in a gunfight
And I fought so madly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me
And you almost had me
[Verse 2]
I thought you were showing all your colours
But you were in sheep's clothing
The mind of another
Can a slave preach freedom?
Can a captive take hold of what they believe in?
[Pre-Chorus]
But did you know that cost when you broke your promise?
(I was unprepared)
That when your bombs went off they would come down on us
[Chorus]
I was a knife in a gunfight
And I fought so madly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me
With a blindside
And it hurt so badly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me
[Bridge]
I guess I knew when your heart stop beating
I'd never let you sink your teeth in
I guess I knew when your heart stop beating
I'd never let you sink your teeth in
[Breakdown]
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh (you almost had me)
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh (and you almost had me)
I guess I know when your heart stop beating (oh-oh-oh)
And you almost had me
I guess I knew when your heart stop beating (oh-oh-oh)
[Chorus]
I was a knife in a gunfight
And I fought so madly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me
