abcdefu Lyrics

[Intro]
Fuck you and your mom and your sister and your job
And your broke-ass car and that shit you call art
Fuck you and your friends that I'll never see again
Everybody but your dog, you can all fuck off

[Verse 1]
I swear I meant to mean the best when it ended
Even tried to bite my tongue when you start shit
Now you're textin' all my friends asking questions
They never even liked you in the first place
Dated a girl that I hate for the attention
She only made it two days, what a connection
It's like you'd do anythin' for my affection
You're goin' all about it in the worst ways

[Pre-Chorus]
I was into you, but I'm ovеr it now
And I was tryna be nice
But nothing's getting through, so lеt me spell it out

[Chorus]
A-B-C-D-E, F you
And your mom and your sister and your job
And your broke-ass car and that shit you call art
Fuck you and your friends that I'll never see again
Everybody but your dog, you can all fuck off

[Post-Chorus]
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
A-B-C-D-E, F you

[Verse 2]
You said you just needed space and so I gave it
When I had nothin' to say, you couldn't take it
Told everyone I'm a bitch, so I became it
Always had to put yourself above me

[Pre-Chorus]
I was into you, but I'm over it now
And I was tryna be nice
But nothing's getting through, so let me spell it out

[Chorus]
A-B-C-D-E, F you
And your mom and your sister and your job
And your craigslist couch and the way your voice sounds
Fuck you and your friends that I'll never see again
Everybody but your dog, you can all fuck off

[Post-Chorus]
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
A-B-C-D-E, F off (F off)
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
A-B-C-D-E, F you

[Outro]
And your mom and your sister and your job
And your broke-ass car and that shit you call art
Fuck you and your friends that I'll never see again
Everybody but your dog, you can all fuck off

What did GAYLE say about "abcdefu"?

I have tried so hard to be the nice ex-girlfriend, and I’m over it.

[The song is] empowering you to get pissed off.

You can still be yourself a good person, but be mad at somebody at the same time. I definitely bottled it all up, so when it came out, it exploded into this big, ‘I hate your mom, I...

What have the artists said about the song title?

Funny enough the song was originally called “abcdefuckoff” and I decided to pull it back just a little haha. I didn’t want to give away the whole concept of the song with just the title and I thought “abcdefu” was a good in-between.

What have the artists said about it being the first single release on Atlantic?

I am more than just the “fuck you,” girl but i do think it’s a great place to start. I have many different sides to me that I’m very excited to share but I think abc represents the intensity of emotions I can feel at times. I can get really pissed off and want somebody’s whole family to fuck off or...

What have the artists said about the music video?

I had so much fun filming the music for “abcdefu.” I’ve mainly been in my music videos by myself and it was such a fun and joyful experience to film that video with a group of fun and loving people. It’s not an everyday experience to have a cake fight and take a (fully clothed) group shower with you...

What have the artists said about the producer and their collaboration?

Pete Nappi produced this version of “abcdefu” and we finished it out together when I was visiting LA. I’m a control freak so I always like being in the room with the producer when it comes to my music. Pete started the vibe out by himself and then I added in my production notes and that’s the versio...

What have the artists said about the song?

We kind of already had this concept of the alphabet, but we wanted it to be bigger. [Shouts] Eventually, I was like “Ok, I think I kind of have something that I was like ‘eff you and your mom and your cousin and your father and your brother and your sister,” and I just started listing off people wit...

What have the artists said about the song?

I wrote “abcdefu” when I was trying really hard to be nice and considerate to my ex. Then I heard through some mutual friends that my ex wasn’t saying the nicest things about me and all bets were off.

That song came from a place of trying so hard to be the nice, respectful ex-girlfriend, to the poi...

Is there an acoustic performance available?

I wanted to put out this acoustic version of “abcdefu” to show where it has lived for so long. I haven’t been able to play live shows, so there’s been so many times I’ve imagined myself playing with a band on a stage with people who showed up to hear live music. Now what I’ve been imagining for mont...

What have the artists said about the song?

I wrote it at a time when I was writing extremely self-deprecating songs. I went through a breakup and I put my ex on a pedestal; I really thought I was like the worst person ever. I kept talking about how I messed everything up and refused to admit that maybe he had a part to play in my break up wi...
