While the title “A Quiet Prayer” does enough to lay out what’s happening in this song, the lyrics seem to more specifically denote a crying out to God, acknowledging times where he doubts God’s presence in his life and in the world.
Take me to the apple tree
Take me to the scarlet sea
I need to hear you say to me that you wanted it this way
That you know me and I know you
Take me to the garden floor
Take me to the iron door
And even though I knew before, I need to know again
That you hear me and I hear you
Take me to the river bed
Take me to the water's edge
And I'll remember what you said as I wade into the stream
That you see me and I see you
Take me to the final page
Take me to an empty stage
And I will tell them why I play as the curtain starts to fall
That you love me and I need you
