In this poem, Ponder presents himself as a street lamp, and reveals his struggles with maintaining love for the Girl he once deeply admired. He goes on to share how the Girl reacts to his sudden shift into an inanimate lamp in their relationship. Behind this story lies a few intended themes as well:...
My immortal glow sheds light to your
fears,
And brightens the buds of yoursoftest
tears.
Peering below through an unnoticed
eye,
I hear the lost breath of your silent
cry.
My lustrous presence is your
remedy,
As I cast upon your fair
Trinity:
Mind of an angel with pure
innocence.
The words of a lulling charm,
in a sense.
Misty features of a dove's
elegance.
There are none a bullet looks
well against.
A lost life in the most abrupt
manner.
The air sang melodies of a stiff
chanter.
You'd given me company as of
late.
The foot of my stature is where you
lay.
Once again widowed and here I stand
bound.
Ever so fond of the peace you have
found.
