Freak folk artist Phil Elverum’s project The Microphones is revered both by larger parts of the underground music scene and fellow folk musicians. The quirky lo-fi recordings and almost whispered vocals makes Elverum’s music stand out from the crowd, while also providing a deeply intimate connection between the listener and Elverum.
His first mainstream success was the album The Glow Pt. 2, which became Pitchfork.com’s favorite album of 2001. He followed the album with the cinematic and ambitious Mount Eerie, which follows Elverum on a journey through time and space.
Elverum released 4 studio albums under the name before he retired it and started releasing music as Mount Eerie.
