Working as an actor, recording artist, comedian, radio personality, writer, puppeteer, and advertising creative director, there was very little Stan Freberg could not do.
Born in 1926, Stan began in the industry in 1943 in radio before moving into voice acting, most notably for the “Looney Tunes” series.
In 1951, Capitol released his first single “John and Marsha,” a parody of soap opera romances. It was a massive hit, and his career continued with the company for dozens more records.
1961 saw the release of “Stan Feberg Presents: The United States of America, Volume 1: The Early Years,” a classic comedy musical recorded in studio. It features June Foray, Paul Frees, among others, along with a variety of catchy tunes and awful puns.
In 1957 Stan had the distinction of writing and performing the very last original comedy show to be aired during the Golden Age of Radio. “The Stan Freberg Show” failed to gain a sponsor and ended after 15 episodes.
Stan then moved into advertising and became the go-to guy for funny ads. He introduced many well-loved campaigns including those for Chun-King, Cantina Tomatoes, Butternut Coffee, and CBS.
Stan died on April 7, 2015, aged 88, leaving behind a long legacy of laughs.
