Sawyer Brown is a country music band founded in 1981 in Nashville TN by five members of country pop singer Don King’s road band: Mark Miller (lead vocals), Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard (keyboards), Jim Scholten (bass guitar), Joe Smyth (drums) & Bobby Randall (lead guitar). They first chose the name Savanna before switching to Sawyer Brown, the name of a road near where they practiced in Bellevue, TN. Current members are the same as the founding members with the exception of Bobby Randall, who departed in 1991. Shayne Hill has assumed the role of lead guitarist.

- Steven Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard was born October 4, 1960 in Apopka, FL. The singer-songwriter currently resides in Nashville.
- Joseph Smyth III was born September 6, 1957 in Portland, ME to Joe & Elaine Smyth. He has a sister, Amy. He married Vicki Cookson and has three children, Tristan, Jenna & Bryce.
- James Thomas “Jim” Scholten was born April 18, 1952 in Bay City, Michigan. He married Adair and has two children, Nick & Anna.
- Shayne A. Hill was born March 21, 1970 in Spearfish, SD. He married Kristin Gartner in Tennessee on October 8, 2005 and has two children, Jesse & Harper. He resides in Nashville.
The group has won various awards; Country Music Association’s CMA Horizon Award in 1985; the Academy of Country Music ACM Vocal Group of the Year for 1997; TNN/Music City News Country Music Awards Vocal Band of the Year for 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 & 1998; and CMT’s Country Music Awards Video Group of the Year for 1993, 1994 & 1995.
