Reuben were an English three-piece alternative rock band from Camberley, Surrey. The band had four songs in the UK Singles Chart, of which the highest charting was “Freddy Kreuger” at #53.

Reuben formed in 1998 when frontman Jamie Lenman was introduced to Jon Pearce by their guitar teacher. They played with original drummer Jason Wilson under the name “Angel”.

In March 2000, drummer Jason Wilson was replaced with Mark Lawton and the band released their first EP Pilot shortly after changing their name to Reuben. Following this release, Mark Lawton would be replaced by their final and most prominent drummer, Guy Davis.

In 2004, The band released their debut album, Racecar is Racecar Backwards. Produced by ex-drummer Jason Wilson, it spawned the band’s biggest single, “Freddy Kreuger”.

The second album, Very Fast, Very Dangerous, was released in 2005. The album featured a departure from the prog sounds that made up the first album into more radio-friendly rock, but kept the edge that Reuben were known for.

The final studio album, In Nothing We Trust, was released in 2007 under the band’s own label, Hideous Records. The album featured the song “Deadly Lethal Ninja Assassin”, with guest vocals from Frank Turner.

In June 2008, Reuben entered a state of indefinite hiatus. Their final release would be the B-sides and rarities collection We Should Have Gone To University. This 47 track behemoth contained every song from Reuben’s back catalogue that hadn’t been released anywhere else, including the song “The Last Time”, which was the final Reuben song to ever be written and released. The band stated that this was not initially written to be about them, despite what people may think.

Post-Reuben, Jamie Lenman writes and releases music as a solo artist to this day, as well as playing fan favourites from his Reuben days at almost every gig. Jon Pearce and Guy Davis started the band Freeze the Atlantic and would go on to create three albums with that band before their eventual split in 2018.
