Delicately quirky, movingly familiar.
‘The inventive but familiar, simple but complex. She writes the kind of tunes that get inside your head and don’t let go' – BBC Introducing in the West
A consistently solid songwriter & musician at her foundation, Natalie Holmes has been releasing music both for herself and with others since 2010, with an unwavering energy for encouraging inward reflection and growth through her music. Beginning the journey with grainy covers on YouTube, Natalie now has countless EP’s and singles released under her own name, as well as extensive self-produced demo albums on Bandcamp where her close and connected fans support her. Not being satisfied with writing within the constraints of her own singer/songwriter persona, Natalie has written for a diverse range of electronic collaborations, covering D&B, Melodic Futurebass, Pop, Dubstep and Trance (the last being a genre she was introduced to when asked to tour with Trance legends Above & Beyond as one of their lead vocalists, performing at sold out venues such as The Hollywood Bowl, Sydney Opera House & Royal Albert Hall). Notable collaborations include her song ‘Zero’ with Oliver Smith on Anjunabeats (a song she originally uploaded as a demo for her Patreon community, with the Trance version reaching #1 in the iTunes Dance chart in over 15 countries), and ‘Doubt You’, an emotional melodic futurebass anthem that hit over 1 million streams in 3 months, with producers Cadmium & Rival.
Self-managed, Natalie has been taking her career with both hands and lifting all she can carry. From booking numerous headline tours, arranging support slots with the likes of Gabrielle Aplin, Ásgeir & Sam Brookes, festival slots including Isle of Wight, Live at Leeds & Barn on the Farm, to early on securing her first major sync with ice cream brand ‘Breyers’, the now 27 y/o musician has learnt a lot about navigating the industry alone. In her hometown too, Natalie has gained respect and admiration after multiple performances at Bristol Harbour Festival & Dot to Dot, alongside longstanding support from BBC Introducing in the West.
Focusing more on singles over the past few years, her song ‘Hideout’ received attention from Radio 2, Clash Magazine & Record of the Day, with Clash describing it as “an inspired return from a songwriter we will enjoy watching develop over the coming months and years”. As she writes more and more, Holmes knows she has more than enough material for an album or 3, but says she’ll ‘know when the time is right’. In the meantime, she continues to release in small chunks, exploring genres and writing in as many corners as she can, including production library music for The Firm Music Group & Audio Network. “I need as many channels as I can with the amount I write. Lyrics are what stitch this world together for me, and being able to write in different contexts is how my creativity really thrives.”
Stemming from her need to spread an uplifting energy through music, Natalie started taking the live streaming world by storm when she started regularly broadcasting hours of on-the-spot inspired creativity on Twitch in late 2018. “The way artists and community are connected here is like nothing else I’ve seen in the ten years I’ve been pursuing a career. I can feel the excitement I felt when I wrote my first song and played my first gig like it was yesterday, and then partnered with the strength I’ve gained musically it’s a euphoric experience!”
Her latest project ‘Songs I Made When The World Changed’, out August 7th 2020, will see her finally manifest the confidence to officially release a body of work produced & mixed entirely by herself.
