Mathas is a rapper and producer from Perth, Australia. He is known for his densely lyrical approach to songwriting and his ability to explore complex and intriguing concepts, stretching from educational extra-terrestial encounters to examining the lack of an Australian cultural food identity due to strained relationships with its First Nation Peoples.
Mathas has been showered in awards by his home state, accumulating a total of 4 awards from WAM, and was awarded the Best Music Video at the 2015 WA Screen Awards for his track “Stone Cold Sober”.
Mathas musical career stated at the age of 10, being a part of a band that eventually won a competition hosted by Triple J Unearthed. As he got older, Mathas taught himself production on a 4-track recorder, rapping along to some of his beats. In 2009, he released his first album “10lb Hairless Sasquatch” through Community Records, achieving enough success to propel him into years of live shows and supports.
Mathas’ sophomore album Armwrestling Atlas was released through Big Village Records in 2015. The album was almost entirely self-produced and was released to critical acclaim, even being longlisted for the Australian Music Prize.
