About Luka Lesson

Luka Lesson is the pen and stage name for Luke Haralampou. He is an Australian slam poet, and a self described “conscious hip-hop artist” of Greek heritage. He delivers powerfully emotive poetry, which provides social commentary and philosophical insight on issues such as social justice and racial prejudice in Australian society.

Lesson has performed alongside other international artists such as Shane Koyczan , Amir Sulaiman , Lowkey and Lemon Anderson, and was invited to perform features at the famous Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe in New York City in 2011 and 2012. He works actively with young people to develop their power of expression, and to utilise the form of the spoken (and written) word. He teaches students to see poetry and writing as a means of empowerment a form of self-determination, creating awareness for marginalized and disenfranchised youth.

His first album Please Resist Me was published in February 2012. The album name, and specifically the song entitled Please Resist Me speaks to Colonial powers. Lesson’s poetry continually strives to expose how such residual powers continue to exploit, undermine and diminish marginalised people and communities. Through his poetry he explores how strength can be found in such struggles, and ultimately contribute to social change.
