Lovejoy is an indie-rock band based in Brighton, England. Its members include Will Gold as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Joe Goldsmith as lead guitarist and backup vocalist, Ash Kabosu as the bassist, and Mark Boardman on the drums.
Upon the band’s debut, they gained popularity online, where their YouTube channel quickly gained 100,000 subscribers just a few days after its creation on May 6th, 2021. Four days later, on May 10th, they released their first EP titled Are You Alright?. On October 14th, their second EP Pebble Brain was released, featuring seven new songs.
Will Gold is widely known for having an affinity to the band Los Campesinos!, which inspired the band’s single cover “Knee Deep at ATP”, which released on December 26th, 2021.
In February 2023, the band released their first stand-alone single, “Call Me What You Like,” which would go on to chart at #32 in the UK singles chart in its first week. The track would later be announced to be part of a much larger project, the long awaited third EP from the band, Wake Up & It’s Over, a six track project, released in May of the same year, which went on to chart at #5 on the UK albums chart.
The year of 2023 would also see the band perform at Reading & Leeds Festivals in the UK, Outside Lands Festival in the US, and Open'er Festival in Poland, which showed the band’s growth from playing their first small show to around fifty people in a brewery in Brighton, to thousands at the UK’s most famous music festivals.
Lovejoy began teasing their debut album in late 2023, scheduled for release in 2024. On October 6th, 2023, the first single of the album, “Normal People Things” was released.
