Keely Smith successfully auditioned for Louis Prima’s band in 1949, starting a partnership that would last twelve years. They married in 1953 and had hits such as That Old Black Magic (which won them a Grammy), I’ve Got You Under My Skin, and Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen. Live routines would involve Prima trying to break Smith’s deadpan demeanour with his wild antics. They stopped collaborating after Smith divorced Prima in 1961.
