About Kill Hannah

Chicago, USA (1995 – 2015)

Kill Hannah was an alternative rock band formed in Chicago by Mat Devine. After a devastating breakup with his girlfriend, Hannah, Mat Devine started to print stickers with the phrase “KILL HANNAH” on independent releases by a band which he was part of. Details are foggy, but soon afterwards Mat met Greg Corner, and together they recruited more two members for Kill Hannah.

By the end of the 90s, Kill Hannah already had some kind of fame in the underground scene of Chicago, having released a few independent albums and EPs. The band possessed a unique sense of style, both in its songs and in its member’s fashion sense.

Around 2002, Kill Hannah got a record deal with Atlantic Records. The album “For Never and Ever” was recorded in the winter of 2003, with producer Sean Beavan (No Doubt, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails) and Tim Palmer (U2, The Cure, Tears For Fears, HIM).

The album didn’t meet the record company’s expectations, but the single “Kennedy” got some recognition, even appearing on the popular TV Show “One Tree Hill”. Another album was released in 2006, “Until There’s Nothing Left of Us”, but Kill Hannah’s story with both Atlantic and the mainstream ended there.

Kill Hannah’s last album was released in 2009. A successor for “Wake Up The Sleepers” was promised over the years, but the band ended up splitting in friendly terms in 2015, with farewell shows taking place late that year, ending where it all began – Chicago.
