Ivor Novello (1893-1951) was born David Ivor Davies in Wales and became a famous actor and songwriter. He first became known for writing “Keep the Home Fires Burning” as a morale-boosting song during World War I. He starred in such films as Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lodger and became Britain’s most popular movie star in the late 1920s, but most of his acting efforts were for the theater.
