About Future Islands

Future Islands are an American synthpop band based in Baltimore, Maryland, signed to 4AD.

Composed of Gerrit Welmers, William Cashion, and Samuel T. Herring, Future Islands formed in January 2006 in Greenville, North Carolina, with most of its members coming from the 2003-2005 college band Art Lord & The Self-Portraits.

In 2008, Future Islands would relocate to Baltimore and release their first album Wave Like Home. But it’s their fourth album—Singles—that would bring them international fame. Their fifth album—The Far Field—is due April 7, 2017.

They describe themselves as “Too noisy for new wave, too pussy for punk.”
