About Enrique Morente

Enrique Morente Cotelo (25 December 1942, Granada – 13 December 2010, Madrid), better known as Enrique Morente was a Spanish flamenco singer and one of the more polarizing figures in the world of contemporary flamenco.

After a traditional start, Enrique Morente began experimenting, writing new melodies for cantes and performing with all kinds of musicians, without renouncing his flamenco roots.

Despite severe criticism from the most extreme purists among the public and critics, he is without a doubt one of the the most influential cantores in modern history, who not only innovated, but can be said to have created tradition as well.

Some of his cantes have been performed by other famous cantores such as Camarón de la Isla, Mayte Martín, Carmen Linares, Miguel Poveda, Segundo Falcón, Arcángel and Rosalia.
