大橋純子 (Junko Ohashi), (April 26, 1950 – November 9, 2023), was a Japanese pop singer known for her powerful soulful voice.
She got her start in music when she joined a band while attending Hokkaido University. Inspired by such artists like Sergio Mendes & Brazil ‘66 and Janice Joplin, Ohashi hoped to add soulful tone to her music.
While working part-time at Yamaha Music Foundation headquarters in Tokyo in 1974, she won a record deal with Philips label and released her debut album Feeling Now.
In 1977, she formed the band Junko Ohashi & Minoya Central Station which included 土屋 昌巳 (Masami Tsuchiya) and her future husband 佐藤健 (Ken Sato) as members. That same year, her song “Simple Love” became a big hit. Her other popular songs include “Tasogare My Love” (1978), “Safari Night” (1978), “Beautiful Me” (1979) and “Silhouette Romance” (1981).
