The loud background voice
Turns into background voices
I'm trying to keep up with the number
But you can't count noises
When you're the only one counting
So a hand count's pointless
They're wrong about you, all signs say “no” but all hands out point “yes”
Mutter as the coward does
Turn the buzz from downward, up
That's the way to get attention
God knows they haven't found enough
Knots of lies that wound the brush
Rob the mind of a sound sleep
Meant to get my mouth to hush
But they won't say them loud to me
