This is the title song from the first solo EP by Lucero’s Ben Nichols (with Rick Steff and Todd Beene), which came out in 2009. The concept EP draws its themes and characters from Cormac McCarthy’s ultra-bleak Western novel “Blood Meridian.”
Nichols spoke on the song with Altpress:
This is the onl...
[Verse 1]
In my hands, I hold the ashes
In my veins, black pitch runs
In my chest, a fire catches
In my way, the setting sun
Dark clouds gather 'round me
To the West, my soul is bound
Well, I will go on ahead, free
There's a light yet to be found
[Chorus]
The last pale light in the West
The last pale light in the West
[Verse 2]
And I ask for no redemption
In this cold and barren place
Still, I see a faint reflection
So by it, guide my way
[Chorus]
The last pale light in the West
The last pale light in the West
