“Skin” is the first track off of my EP, “Stages”, and was a very interesting song to make. I wanted to take a topic very familiar to myself (heartbreak), and kind of flip it on its head and talk from the perspective of someone who is addicted to harming themself.
[Verse]
Staying strong
Is something that is hard when I’m alone tonight
Now you’re gone
You left me nothing but the painful songs to write
I’m just so tired of being lonely, it’s the truth
Why you treat me right then play me like a fool yeah
What was wrong
And why was all the love you had kept out of sight?
[Hook]
Every time I see you out with him
The light you hid it starts to shine within
It makes me think of what we could have been
I thought you loved me but you never did
If I could cut the pain from underneath my skin, I would, I would, I would
If I could cut the pain from underneath my skin, I would, I would (if I could cut it all)
[Verse 2]
I’ve been trying
To find the way to say what’s really on my mind
Too many times, I look into your eyes and never see the signs
So now you got me reminiscing of your love yeah (your love yeah)
You’re the only one that I’ve been thinking of yeah
But then I find
You’re happier without me by your side
[Hook]
Every time I see you out with him
The light you hid it starts to shine within (shine within)
It makes me think of what we could have been (could have been)
I thought you loved me but you never did
If I could cut the pain from underneath my skin, I would, I would, I would
If I could cut the pain from underneath my skin, I would
If I could cut the pain
Skin was written by Dylan Longworth.
Skin was produced by Dylan Longworth.
Dylan Longworth released Skin on Fri Dec 27 2019.
This was probably the easiest song to write because I am used to writing in these narratives, but it seemed difficult to bring the self harm aspect into it, like I was nervous or didn’t think the meaning would come across.
