[Intro]
Yeah
Yeah, it feels good actually
Sorta thus far
Okay, where have you been?
[Verse 1]
You've been lost deep in Orion's Belt loop again, haven't you?
Tangled up, procrastinating with eons left to travel in a bedroom full of shrapnel
You're all broken up like the ozone and there's not a tube of PVA in sight
What a nightmare
[Pre-Chorus]
And now you're out of bed, that rock needs pushing up a hill
And, yeah, it rolled down again, but, well
You know that picture you took of the summer?
Well, that's gotta count for something
It was golden hour
[Chorus]
And that's a big smile for a sad face
You're caught between a rock and a calm place
And that's a big smile for a sad face
Caught between a rock and a calm place
[Verse 2]
What kind of frame is your mind in?
Mine's antique with a solid silver lining
Maybe I should get a second opinion on that actually
Just 'cause you got out of bed late doesn't mean you've wasted the day
Far from it, I promise
[Pre-Chorus]
And now you're out of bed, that rock needs pushing up a hill
And yeah it rolled down again, but, well
Think of all the calories you burnt getting it up there
You got all your steps in
There's just tomorrow to think about now
[Chorus]
That's a big smile for a sad face
You're caught between a rock and a calm place, yeah
And that's a big smile for a sad face
You're caught between a rock and a calm place
Rock and a calm place
And that's a big smile for a sad face
You're caught between a rock and a calm place, yeah
That's an awful big smile for a sad face
You're caught between a rock and a calm place
[Bridge]
I don't know why
I'm always caught up in the fight in my own mind
Feeling worse than feeling better, I can't decide
When both the wheels have stopped revolving on my bike
It's almost impolite
[Outro]
And that is a pretty big smile for a sad face
You know how I feel sometimes, well
You know, just gotta keep on pushing that rock up the hill
When I was writing this I found myself consciously slowing down and trusting myself to find the space between the music rather than being ‘on’ it all the time. So it’s quite conversational, really, and then skippy where it needs to be. I like that despite the content – I was in a bit of a weird head...
The visuals are linked quite closely with the track on this one too, and it was my first time writing and co-directing what I wanted to feel like a short film. There’s a little nod to [previous track] “Hitchhiker” in there as well (“you’ve been lost deep in Orion’s Belt loops again, haven’t you?”) a...
