“Magpie” is the debut single released by English actress and singer- songwriter Ella Hunt, after the success of her role of Sue Gilbert in the AppleTV original series “Dickinson”. This proceeded her debut EP “Triptych”.
[Verse 1]
There's a man on the street
With a wide stance and a gun
He's wearing a face mask
I ask if he has an extra one
He says 'Not today. Now, please
Step back six feet away'
I wish he'd ask how I was doing
I wish I could say okay
[Bridge]
But even the cobbles are lonely today
The city that never sleeps
Is sleeping
[Verse 2]
I saw a magpie by my window
I thought bad luck
But then another came along
I discard my superstitions
When they don't go my way
I am decidedly blue
And blue is how I'll stay
[Chorus]
Until the streets are filled with people
Who hug and touch and say hello
Until the only fear that exists
Is a fear we already know
Not a fear that silently closes
Every bar, every public room
Just bone breaks and cancer
And the usual doom and gloom
Even lady liberty silently cries
The city that never sleeps is closing her eyes
Until the streets are filled with people
Who hug and touch and say hello
Until the only fear that exists
Is a fear we already know
Not a fear that silently closes
Every bar, every public room
Just bone breaks and cancer
And the usual doom and gloom
Even the cobbles are lonely today
The city that never sleeps is sleeping
Even lady liberty silently cries
The city that never sleeps is closing her eyes
