I had to get to New York... (Live) Lyrics

So, you know, they, they're in Canada, a bunch of stuff happens
And, uh, and I'm born, and I'm the first, aren't they lucky?
And I had you know, a very lovely, you know, middle-class upbringing
My parents loved me very much
They supported my chosen career which is crazy, um
But uh, you know, I went to Toronto, and I was in acting school
And then I was in a band, and then
But I knew New York was where I wanted to be
Had to get to New York
Uh, so I, I finally saved some, some wood chips
And came down here with what I had, which wasn't much
And, uh, but I couldn't work, couldn't work legally
Uh, so I was down in St. Mark's
Uh, sorting LPs for about eight bucks an hour
Living on pizza and living all the, you know, the New York glamorous life
And finally, my visa came through
And a couple of weeks later, I booked my first job
In the world premiere of The Toxic Avenger musical
And I got off the phone, and I had that full on like Leo and Kate moment on the end of the boat
I went out to my fire escape and I was like "I'm the king of the world!"
And like, screamed to the New York, the New York landscape
And uh, and then I got there and it was hard
Oh my god, it was a hard job, not to sound ungrateful
But I was wearing a latex suit for ninety minutes straight
No intermission, just screlting, climbing all over the set
I-I've went to the hospital twice
I have permanent scars on my body from that show
Uh, loved it though, I do
But one of the things that was a highlight for me
Was getting to work with my next guest
She played Sarah the Blind Librarian
That's true
To my Toxie, Melvin Ferd the Third
Her name is Sara Chase, please welcome her
She hasn't, she's n—, the character never left her
(Here, alright, you take, okay, take the mic)
Hi, hi
You're, you're doing great
Thank you, I'm over here though, that's Marcos
Our per—, our per—, our percussionist
