“The Consequences of Falling” tells of the fear of being the only one in a relationship who’s falling in love. It’s the first track off of k.d. lang’s ninth solo album, Invincible Summer, released in 2000 to mixed reviews. It is also the sole song that lang did not write or co-write on the album.
[Verse 1]
Are you breathing
What I'm breathing?
Are your wishes the same as mine
Are you needing
What I'm needing
I'm waiting for a sign
[Pre-Chorus]
My hands tremble
My heart aches
Is it you calling
Is it you calling
[Chorus]
If I'm alone in this
I don't think I can face
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
[Verse 2]
Are you thinking
What I'm thinking
Does your pulse quicken like mine
Are you dreaming
What I'm dreaming
I can't read your mind
[Pre-Chorus]
One step towards you
Two steps back
Feels like I'm crawling
Feels like I'm crawling
[Chorus]
If I'm alone in this
I don't think I can face
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling
[Pre-Chorus]
My hands tremble
My heart aches
Is it you calling
Is it you calling
[Chorus]
If I'm alone in this
I don't think I can face
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
The consequences of falling (consequences of falling)
(Consequences of falling, consequences of falling)
