“Shout Out To My Ex” is a farewell message to all of the ex-boyfriends of Little Mix’s members. Each of them offers sarcastic thanks to the men for helping to make them who they are today—women who are totally over them and much healthier for it. The lyrics contain a lot of references to Perrie Edwa...
[Verse 1: Perrie]
This is a shout out to my ex
Heard he in love with some other chick
Yeah, yeah, that hurt me, I'll admit
Forget that boy, I'm over it
I hope she gettin' better sex (Ha)
Hope she ain't fakin' it like I did, babe
Took four long years to call it quits
Forget that boy, I'm over it
[Pre-Chorus: Jade]
Guess I should say thank you
For the "hate you"s and the tattoos
Oh, baby, I'm cool by the way
Ain't sure I loved you, anyway
Go 'head, babe, I'ma live my life, my life, yeah
[Chorus: All]
Shout out to my ex, you're really quite the man
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex, hey, look at me now
Well, I, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never bring me down
Shout out to my ex (Woo), you're really quite the man
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex (Woo), hey, look at me now
Well, I'm, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never, you'll never bring me down
[Verse 2: Jesy, Jade, Leigh-Anne]
Oh, I deleted all your pics
Then blocked your number from my phone, mmm
Yeah, yeah, you took all you could get
But you ain't gettin' this love no more (Ah-ooh)
'Cause now I'm livin' so legit (So legit)
Even though you broke my heart in two, baby (Scoop, scoop)
But I snapped right back, I'm so brand new, baby (I'm so brand new)
Boy, read my lips, I'm over you, over you, mmh (Uh)
[Pre-Chorus: Leigh-Anne, All]
Guess I should say thank you
For the "hate yous" and the tattoos
Oh, baby, I'm cool by the way, mmh (Ooh)
Ain't sure I loved you anyway
Go 'head, babe, I'ma live my life, my life, yeah
[Chorus: All, Jesy]
Shout out to my ex, you're really quite the man
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex, hey, look at me now
Well, I'm, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never bring me down
Shout out to my ex (Woo), you're really quite the man (You're really quite the man)
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex (Woo), hey, look at me now
Well, I'm, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never, you'll never bring me down
[Post-Chorus: Jade & Perrie, Jade]
Ooh, ooh
You'll never bring me down
Ooh, ooh
Ooh-ooh, yeah
[Bridge: Perrie, All]
Shout out to my ex, you're really quite the man
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex, hey, look at me now
Well, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never, you'll never bring me down, ooh
[Chorus: All, Leigh-Anne, Perrie, Jade]
Shout out to my ex, you're really quite the man (You're quite the man)
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex (Woo), hey, look at me now
Well, I'm, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never bring me down (You'll never bring me down)
Shout out to my ex (Woo), you're really quite the man (Man)
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here's to my ex (Woo), hey, look at me now (Baby, just look at me now)
Well, I'm, I'm all the way up, I swear you'll never, you'll never bring me down (Down)
[Outro: All, Jade, Jesy]
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh (Ooh)
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh, oh (Yeah, hey)
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh (Oh-oh)
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh, oh (Oh, nah, nah)
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, oh, oh
You'll never bring me down

Each member of Little Mix seems to be thinking about their own exes when singing their part. All four of the girls have exes, but most people think the whole track is about Zayn Malik because of his highly-publicized relationship with Perrie.
“Shout Out to My Ex” is a song that we’re sure loads of people can relate to. It’s all about moving on after a relationship ends to bigger and better things, and leaving the past where it should be.
Perrie Edwards:
It’s iconic. It’s epic. It still goes down really well when we do it live. Everyone seems to love it, I think because everyone can relate to it—and it definitely makes me just feel really good. Even when it comes on now, I just love it.

We were on the road when that was written. What we did at that time, because we were so busy, was, we would send our own experiences and concepts to our favorite writers and then they would do a writing camp off the back of what we wanted to be written about. Then we got a “Shout Out” in from KAMILL...
