“After” is the first track off the debut EP, as well as the first track composed for the release. Written by frontman Elizabeth Hull, the song is extremely personal to the lead singer, referencing many major turning points unique to her life.
[Verse 1]
First thing's first my dear
Are you proud of where we came from?
Your facade of fire goes down in tears
When we're so comfortable up here
Leave me on your silver throne to gather dust
Open up the window, and your words begin to rust
Promises mean nothing more
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Than porcelain smiles and nervous laughter
Perhaps you don't understand
[Chorus]
This is not what I'm after
Hiding from the lights that you're shining in my eyes
Another round of applause as I swing from the rafters
(Woah)
This is not what I'm after
[Verse 2]
Your fascination is exhausting
Obsessed with the stage
In love with a songbird in a cage
Don't you find it sad no one finds it strange?
If I ever see my face light up the skyline
Rest my case and leave this world behind
Why did you bring me here at all, at all?
[Pre-Chorus 2]
Surrogate bombs and social standards
Perhaps you don't understand
[Chorus]
This is not what I'm after
Hiding from the lights that you're shining in my eyes
Another round of applause as I swing from the rafters
(Woah)
This is not what I'm after
[Instrumental]
[Refrain]
Hiding from the lights that you're shining in my eyes
[Chorus]
This is not what I'm after
Hiding from the lights that you're shining in my eyes
Another round of applause as I swing from the rafters
(Woah)
