A song written for the Radiolab “Apocalyptical” live performance on November 22, 2013. Having just performed a segment about a new theory of how dinosaurs may have gone extinct, Radiolab then cleared the stage for Reggie Watts, who performed this song to close his night.

Yeah
But we tried so many times
But now we know the end is nigh
When I think of those thunderous lizards
Walking cross this barren plain, lush forest
Baby I can't complain, but
When those pterosaurs go tearing through the sky
Squawking with their laser-precision eyes
Swooping down, taking praise
And knowing that
That shining little dot in the distance is not
A super-extra shiny star, all the astrophysicist dinosaurs would have said, but
In that time before the inevitable, yes
I want to say
That it was great to see how
The earth concocted a strange, large lizard family
Those lizards made sounds, and attacked each other and wore coats and clothing, but oh well
All of that got burned off in the evidence of an actual intellectual society which may not be apparent to us
Woah, yeah I know, yes
What happened to the sleestacks?
What happened to all those slurping sleestacks
Moving at probably a top speed of three miles per hour
Or the aliens that donated genetic material to the hominids in order to create the society of people that we are
And thus explains our fascination for diamonds and gold, because we've just kind of
Dug it up for their spaceships, oh well
Yeah, (scatting), but
I don't know, but it makes a lot of sense
I don't know, but it makes a lot of sense
I know it makes, know it makes, know it makes, know it, know it, know it makes, know it
Know it, know it, know it, know it, know it, know it, know it, know it, know it, know it, know it makes
Know, know it makes, know it, know it makes (scatting)
I don't know, but it makes a lot of sense
