Intro:
Thank you. Thank you for giving me your time. And if not, and you skipped ahead, this is your Too Long; Didn't Read. This is what made up me. And this is dedicated to all those who made me. This goes to you. Let's go
Verse:
Son of Robert and Venita born in 1990
Made it to 2018 and as I look behind me
I ponder, how has life's series of events
Shaped this master of ceremony with you ladies and gents
Topeka, Kansas where the man was taught his suburb grammar
A bit of country, but you'd think I'm southern with my manners
That hospitality was taught to me in daycare with Nanny
And the early nights that I spent with Granny Haynes
Family reunions spent with cousins that barely know now
Because divorce had more Smiths around I could profile
My dad remarried moving to Florida, that sort of created borders
From his kin, and more familiar with the quarters of mom's
Though she tried her best to balance that dynamic
Plus, my father often flew me closer to the Atlantic
And my relationship with Leslie as mother lacks the step
So I'm grateful for two families I get love and respect
But as I grew up in top-city, my companions were Kenna and Izzy
From attending Calvary Baptist Church to playing games with smirks
And soon my first little sister arrived to join the team
Our second S when my older one Sheronda ain't visiting
You see, Sienna entered my life making me more protective
Save for the moments we were playing recklessly
Like us wrestling; as siblings, we were closest in our formative
Years; growing up together more and less fortunate
The lifestyle of the broke and average
Is something that I'm used to; the middle class is this
Living in the district to school with the privileged
Yet three generations in the house share the same fridge
Occasional days without power
But had the chance to go up the Eiffel Tower
My parents, aunties, and uncles unified to stay afloat
That made me cherish them, cause I knew some weren't in the same boat
Cause by the time I was in Antioch Missionary
I realized that a few miles away was like a different area
Cause although I wore the same clothes for years
Drugs, violence, and tears was normal to my worshiping peers
It's weird; I'm the goody two shoes who got it made to one crowd
And on the other hand, they pity me and look down...wow
And I appreciate that dichotomy, cause what that taught to me
Was never to judge people economically
Now I can bring you to when I moved to Tampa
Cause that's where I also saw a bit of that double standard
At Blake High, I was a magnet student of performing arts
But the traditional academics wasn't a performing part
Yet at home, I start to being a big bro to Jaden
That 14 year gap makes building a relationship a bit frustrating
But I hope to be an example of how to combat Satan
Putting Jehovah first, because we are His loved creations
And as I make these statements, I hope you can get the portrait
Just like I had to learn I'm more than punchlines and a chorus
I'm forged with experiences and influences
(That aren't musical) and that's what's turned me into this
It's struggles, conversations, love, goals, entertainment
Set before me; I'm what it all was forming
I'm digging and chipping away so you can finally receive this
My Genuinely Epic Monsterpieces
GEMs
I became a lapidary to drop GEMs, but first I had to spelunk to find the minerals. I mean, I tried to really unearth the raw material that shows who I am in a way I've never done before. The pressure was high, but they say that makes diamonds. And I can't think of Emeralds without the chaos, but hey...I only hope I polished it enough for you to find it precious. Either way, I'm going to show it off like a new necklace. Threes!
