Q&A with Upcoming Artist Sauvachi Annotated

What inspired you to start making music, and how did your musical journey begin?
Growing up in Bahrain, I always had a strong connection with hip-hop/rap music. I love the energy, the rhythm, and the storytelling aspect of it. But at the same time, I noticed that there wasn’t really a scene for hip-hop here, which made me want to create something unique. It felt like an opportunity to express my experiences in a way that hadn’t been done before, to give a voice to stories that people in my region can relate to, while also tapping into the universal struggles that hip-hop culture addresses.

• Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
Artists like Lil Baby and Travis Scott have had a huge impact on me. They are storytellers in their own way, and I connect with that. They’ve shaped my approach to lyrics, making sure everything I say has depth and meaning, but also ensuring it sounds like an out-of-this-world experience. I also draw influence from local sounds and my personal life experiences. I want to blend the hip-hop I grew up listening to with the realities I’m living in Bahrain, adding a unique twist to it.

• Can you describe your creative process when writing and producing new songs?
I usually start by freestyling until I find the right flow and sound. Sometimes there are specific stories that I’m trying to tell, while other times it’s just about capturing a vibe. Once I have that foundation, I’ll go back and refine the lyrics, making sure they’re meaningful and polished.

• How do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while also appealing to a wider audience?
It’s definitely a challenge. I want to stay authentic to myself and where I come from, but I also know I need to create something that people outside of Bahrain can connect with. I think the key is finding that middle ground, where the music reflects my personal experiences but also speaks to broader themes that everyone can feel.

• What has been the most challenging moment in your music career, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge has been getting people to take Bahraini hip-hop seriously. This country isn’t known for rap, and that can feel like an uphill battle. But I use that as motivation to keep pushing, networking, and staying true to my craft. Slowly but surely, I’m starting to see more recognition, which keeps me moving forward.

• Is there a particular song or project that holds special meaning to you? If so, why?
Honestly, there isn’t just one. Every project I release is a reflection of where I am at that moment, so with each new release, the music evolves and becomes my favorite. Every track is tied closely to my current reality, making it the most relevant to my life and situation at the time.

• Where do you see your music evolving in the next few years, and are there any upcoming projects you’re excited about?
I see my music evolving by incorporating more of my real-life experiences, from where I’m living right now to the personal challenges I’m facing. I want to push boundaries and create a sound that’s unmistakably mine. As for upcoming projects, I’ve just released an EP called “Between Chapters,” which symbolizes my transition into becoming a full-time artist as I leave behind the uncertainties of my past and fully commit to my passion for music. This EP reflects both the growth I’ve experienced and the new direction I’m taking as I work to elevate Bahrain's presence in the global hip-hop scene.
