This very funny work for mixed chorus and woodwind band parodies the sentimental excesses of French grand opera by composing a somber and somewhat dyspeptic march for a dead bird. The libretto translates as, “Have you eaten, Jaco? And what? Ah!”

In a footnote on the score, the composer wrote:
This reminiscence is due solely to an ornithological accident. I pray you, connoisseurs of La gazza ladra, do not attribute the slightest impertinence to the deceased parrot’s song.
