A Tale I Can’t Tell

I can write about how you hurt me
I can write about being betrayed
I can write the end of our story
How the pieces of me became frayed
I can write about how you broke me
Once I fell under your spell
But to write about loving you
That’s a tale I can’t tell

I’ve got letters and poems just for you
From the hours after my heart broke
I’ve got critical essays about you
And the painfully cruel words you spoke
I’ve got pages and pages of verses
And ‘I thought that I knew you so well’s
But the traces of back when I loved you
That’s a tale I can’t tell

It doesn’t mean I didn’t feel it, I felt it all
Maybe I couldn’t bare the thought of playing the fool

I could sing the pain that I’ve written
And not bat an eye
But to sing a story ‘bout loving you, well
I won’t even try
Cause the pain I would feel from those memories
Is enough to pull my heart’s thread
So the tale of how fiercely I loved you
Is a tale best left unsaid
