About Yvette Williams

Yvette Williams (née Yvette Graham) is a Chicago-native singer best known for her involvement in gospel music and associations with Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers, The Thompson Community Singers, as well as singer Tonéx who she was briefly married to.

Her rich soprano easily draws comparisons to other big soul voices like Karen Clark-Sheard, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle and the like. Her gregarious personality and prowess as a vocalist earned her the nickname “Ms. Tonex” at the time.

Although she recorded an album titled Blonde-Haired Angel with her husband at the helm, the album was never released. One song, a nativity-themed funk-gospel hybrid “Babyface,” did turn up on the compilation album MSS Dynasty: Hostile Takeover.

Williams now calls San Diego, California home and, among other things, has started a jewelry business called Taking Wrists that donates a portion of its proceeds to women’s assistance organizations. She hasn’t retired from recording either. She appeared as a featured artist on Bryan Duncan’s album The Live Experience in 2015 performing two songs.
