George van den Broek (born February 23, 1999), better known as Yellow Days, is a British singer-songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist from Haslemere, England.
He was born in Manchester, but his family shortly afterwards moved to Haslemere in Surrey. His mother is from Yorkshire, while his dad grew up in Gravesend and he’s Dutch.
His music can be classified primarily as “soul-filled indie-rock,” and his main musical influences are Ray Charles, Howlin’ Wolf, Mac Demarco, and Tame Impala.
In his 2018 interview on Indie Mag, he explained the meaning his stage name:
It’s actually not from my synesthesia, but a lot of people think it is. The idea of “Yellow Days” is that it’s supposed to be about your teenage years, your youth. It’s essentially about the times that you were troubled and confused and everything was too intense. I feel like everyone had that period in their life, around the age of sixteen to nineteen. I think that’s like when people are normally in the hotbed of emotional turmoil. It’s about youth and confusion and over-emotional-ness and all these very teenager-y feelings which I feel like a lot of people come back to later in life in short bursts.
In 2016, Yellow Days was signed to the record label, Good Years, whose roster boasts such talents as Banks, Francis and the Lights, and Mick Jenkins. Later that year, Yellow Days would release Harmless Melodies EP, which went on to receive widespread acclaim and sparked the curiosity of critics and fans alike.
The following year in October 2017, Is Everything OK In Your World? was released. Again, it was a project that was dissected and analysed, but was ultimately praised for being such an impressive debut album.
