About XIT

XIT (short for Crossing of Indian Tribes) is an American rock group comprised entirely of members of American Indian tribes. Included among band members are A. Michael Martin, Alfonso Kolb, Jomac Suazo, Lee Herrera, Leeja Herrera, Mac Suazo, R. C. Gariss, and Tom Bee. Originally based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the group eventually gained enough success to sign to Motown records in the 1970s. Many of the songs that the group has produced address the hardships that American Indians have faced both in historic settings and in more contemporary times. Particularly notable is their concept album Plight Of The Redman, which displays the change in American Indian lives after making contact with Christopher Columbus.
