Elijah Xavier Johnson (b. November 5, 1993), better known as Xay Scott, is an American producer and rapper from Orange, New Jersey. He is best known for producing songs for Lil Uzi Vert and Soulja Boy, among many other artists.
Xay started his career within 2012 under the name “R2D2onthetrack.” He would get his first placement on a Lil B song entitled “Deals Whoodie” from Green Flame, released in June. “Nobody Got Cash” is another song from the mixtape that he produced, although it was released two months later and not officially added to the track listing until Lil B added his projects to streaming services in April 2018, nearly six years later.
From there, he produced some songs for underground rappers, where he had a relatively small buzz. It was not until early September that production credits would be seen for a future frequent collaborator: Soulja Boy. Two songs from Juice II (“Comin' Thru” and “Racks”) contain credits for him. It was not the last time they would collaborate together within 2012 and certainly not after it; “I Don’t” and “Stop Flexin” from Loud were released on Christmas Day.
2013 proved to be a very big year for Xay Scott. At the start of it, his alias had changed to “2 Deezy” or “DatNxgga2Deezy.” His work ethic had gone up drastically. On the February mixtape from Soulja Boy alone, entitled Foreign, Xay had his hand on more than half of the songs – a whopping 14 out of 24. Not only would he continue to have at least one placement on each of Soulja Boy’s projects from then until mid-2015, but he also garnered some buzz from the booming Chicago drill scene – gathering credits on songs by Billionaire Black, Lil Jay and P. Rico, among other rappers from Chicago.
Following a big year, 2014 was more quiet as the workload dwindled down a bit, but it was also quite transitional. The sound that got Xay the recognition he got – usually a mix of strings and bells – would change after the early portion of the year. For example, “Exodia” by fellow New Jersey rapper Fresh Moss, shows that he can produce a song with a more sample-driven melody rather than using trap elements. Despite this, he was still more known for his trap production. Xay also changed his alias again within the middle portion of the year to “2DZ”, shortening what he had previously gone by. It was not until 2017 that it would be changed again to “Xay Scott.”
The biggest song with his name attached to remains to be “7AM” by Lil Uzi Vert, released on October 30, 2015. He and Lex Luger, who had connections with each other a year prior, started the initial beat and gave it to DP Beats, where he would finish it. However, only DP Beats was initially credited on the BMI repertoire alongside Lil Uzi Vert (both of them had a 50/50 share of the royalties), leading to a battle between BMI and Xay Scott regarding the missing credits. Despite it being tough, as he was told he was falsely claiming to being a composer of the song, the proper credits for him and Lex Luger would eventually be added some time after. These details can be confirmed in an interview with DJ Pain 1 from April 2017.
Xay has been in a total of three producer groups: “Stoner Kids Music Group” in 2012, “The Legacy” in 2013 (which he was the leader of) and “Alien Related Productions” in 2015. These groups disbanded after at least a year of their formations due to complications or members wanting to pursue their own careers. He is currently one-third of the production trio “Pacc Life.”
