Winston Ward was introduced to R&B at an early age by his older brother singing Dru Hill around the house. He continued to be curious about R&B and singing in general until high school where he realized that girls like guys who can sing. This caused him to study the great crooners of the ‘90s and early 2000s like Boyz II Men, Jamie Foxx, Usher, D'Angelo, etc. After high school, Winston began building his songwriting skills, his song catalog, his fanbase, and most importantly his network. After a few years of consistent hard work including touring, numerous R&B groups, gospel choirs, and songwriting, Winston finally gained the attention of some record labels. Unfortunately, all of them told him that although he was talented, his “image” wasn’t what they were looking for.

Winston contemplated quitting music for several years. The rejection from a few major record labels, coupled with the death of his father from prostate cancer, along with many other personal struggles really put Winston in a dark place. The one thing that sparked a turn around was remembering how happy his father was seeing him on TV singing. It was the confirmation he needed to continue going and making his father proud. He decided to honor his father by using his government name Winston Ward as his stage name since that was also his father’s name. Since then, Winston has gone on to create his own indie record label, Sounds Of Music Univerxity where he fosters and develops indie talent as well as teach them independence & brand identity. In 2019, he released his debut album “Creative”, which was well received by R&B music lovers. In 2020, he’s released 2 singles, “What Is Love” & “Chemistry(Remix) Ft. Kevin Antoniyo. He’s also started a #CanISingForYou IGTV series where he allows his followers to decide which song he sings weekly. There’s a lot more in store for Winston Ward in the coming months.
